Dr. Gregory Dipple of the MDRU at UBC.
Dr. Dipple’s talk will discuss his research into accelerating carbon mineralization processes for mine waste to turn tailings into a net carbon sink. The industry value implications are enormous, and Dr. Dipple will be able to provide detailed information on the state of the research and the future.
“Tailings – What does Best Available Technology Mean?”

Dr. Michael Davies of Teck Resources Ltd.
Dr. Davies’ talk will give an overview of the best technologies available for tailings management, drawing upon his 25+ years of experience in industry as a geologist/engineer.
“Tailings Risk Management”
Friday, March 24th at 4pm
Dr. Dirk van Zyl, professor and Chair of Mining and the Environment at UBC.
Dr. Van Zyl’s talk will cover the range of risks and challenges associated with modern tailings management and decision making.
The talks will take place in room 5104 of the Earth Sciences Building (5th floor, west side of the building) on the UBC campus. Food and refreshments will be provided at noon talks, refreshments are provided at 4pm talks.
